Leonberger Hybrid

  1. The Leonberger Hybrid, also known as the LeoBerner, is a mix between the beloved Bernese Mountain Dog and the lesser know Leonberger. If you love gentle, intelligent, and giant dogs, you’re in the right place! A hybrid pup coming from these two breeds is bound to be calm, patient, and great with kids, as both their parents are. LeoBerners are incredible family dogs and have a docile and calm temperament.

While any mixed breed dog is somewhat unpredictable when it comes to what characteristics they’ll inherit from either parent, this hybrid is bound to be a loyal gentle giant. Both breeds carry themselves with confidence and nobility. Bernese Mountain Dogs and Leonbergers are both bred to be working dogs, so a combination of the two will be hardworking and active.

More About The Breed

The Leonberger Hybrid, also known as the LeoBerner, is a mix between the beloved Bernese Mountain Dog and the lesser know Leonberger.

Berners and Leonbergrs are both intelligent breeds and relatively easy to train, but the Leonbergers have quite the stubborn streak in them so extra time and incentivization could be necessary. As with all breeds, socialization, and training from a young age is necessary for a well-adjusted adult LeoBerner.

While mixed breeds are generally healthier, the Leongberger Hybrid is a combination of two large breed dogs, so they will be prone to bloat, a fatal condition that develops and takes its toll quickly. All breeds should always have their ear checked regularly for signs of infection. The life span estimate for this breed is 7-10 years.

Combining these two breeds result in a dog that needs to be brushed at least every other day, and requires and longer grooming session with a metal comb once a week to avoid matting. Their nails should also be trimmed monthly because overgrown nails will cause pain during walking or running.

This large breed combination results in a dog that is meant for a nice house with a large backyard. Leonbegrer Hybrids will require a half hour to an hour of playtime and exercise. They love to go on walks and hikes and to run beside their owner while they ride a bike.

The size of a mixed-breed dog can’t be entirely predicted, but a Leoberner will weigh between 110 to 160 pounds. Their height will vary drastically but should be somewhere between 23 and 32 inches at the shoulder.
