More About The Breed

  • From western Europe comes a breed beloved by many: the strong and lively Pembroke Welsh Corgi. This breed is muscular with short little legs and pointy ears. Their coats can be fawn, sable, red, or black and tan, with or without white markings.

  • This little dog packs a big punch. Despite their short stature, Corgis are one of the world’s most popular herding breeds. Their powerful legs and acute senses have made them surprisingly quick and agile.
  • Despite their short stature, this breed is athletic and skilled at herding. Their intelligent and sensitive traits make them excellent house dogs as well. Corgis may have a mind of their own at times, but they are also very willing partners who respond well to training. Gentle exposure, especially from a young age will help them become well-adjusted as adults.
  • The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a hearty dog, living 12-13 years, but may be susceptible to DM (Degenerative Myelopathy). The health of the parents plays a large role in your dog’s health, so it is important to find a breeder who takes that into consideration before they breed. Other health concerns that the breed may be susceptible to are elbow and hip dysplasia, eye disorders, and cardiac issues.
  • This Corgi has a thick, double coat and sheds a fair amount on a daily basis. Daily brushing and combing will help with shedding and are necessary to keep the coat clean and smooth. The Corgi’s teeth should be brushed weekly, nails trimmed monthly, and ears kept clean and dry.
  • This breed was developed to herd cattle, and they love physical activity. Moderate daily exercise helps them stay healthy both physically and mentally. They do well when they have a job to do and enjoy canine activities like agility, herding, obedience, and tracking.
  • The Pembroke typically stands 10-12 inches tall and weighs 22-31 pounds.
