Poodles are one of the most intelligent dog breeds and are easy to train. In addition to being smart, they are incredibly versatile and excel at canine sports like agility and obedience, have the perfect skillset for therapy work, and really are a companion for all reasons or seasons. Poodles are also people-oriented and are great with kids. With an eager to please attitude and boundless enthusiasm, training Poodles is always a great success.

Most Poodles live long, healthy lives of 10-18 years. They are susceptible to some health issues, like hip and knee problems and eye disorders. The parents’ health plays a large role in your dog’s health, so it is important to find a responsible breeder.

Poodles in the show circuit are often kept in a high maintenance continental clip, but most pet owners often opt for a shorter cut with less maintenance. Regardless, the Poodle’s curly coat needs to be brushed to the skin daily to avoid matting. Haircuts are required every 6-8 weeks. Regular nail trimming, ear cleaning, and dental care is recommended.

Poodles require a good bit of exercise to suit their high energy level and intelligence. This is why larger Standard Poodles may not be the best fit for a small apartment. Poodles thrive on having a job to do. Daily play times with a lot of space for them to run is ideal. Most also enjoy going for jogs.

Poodles come in three sizes. All three varieties have the same build and proportions.

Standard Poodles are 16-22 inches tall, weighing 40-70 pounds.
Miniature Poodles are 10-15 inches tall, weighing between 10 and 15 pounds.
Toy Poodles are no more than 10 inches tall, weighing between 4 and 6 pounds.
